How to Make Hand sanitizer Using Betle Leaves (Piper betle L.) and Lime (Citrus aurantifolia S.)
Main Article Content
Abstract
Hand sanitizeris a hand sanitizer in the form of a liquid or gel, generally used to reduce bacteria on the hands. Hand sanitizers generally contain alcohol which can dry out the hands and cause dehydration of the skin. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers can also increase the risk of being infected with a virus that triggers inflammation of the digestive tract. To avoid this, we must replace chemicals like alcohol with natural ingredients, such as betel leaf and lime. Betel leaf contains antibacterial compounds consisting of phenolic compounds and their derivatives. Betel leaf contains a wide variety of chemicals including essential oils, terpenoids, tannins, polyphenols and steroids. Lime contains flavonoids which provide various pharmacological activities. Lime also contains chemical compounds such as limonene, linalin acetate, fellandren and citrus. Both of these ingredients also contain chemicals such as essential oils and phenols as antibacterial agents. By providing counseling on how to make hand sanitizers with natural ingredients, it is hoped that the community, especially in Jejangkit Pasar Village, often wash their hands, which can help the government in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
