Education on the Appropriate Drug Disposal Method for the Community in Barito Kuala Regency

Abstract

Public awareness about self-medication is quite high, however this must be balanced with a good level of knowledge about drug management. Management here starts from how to get, use, store, and dispose of the right medicine. The careless disposal of drugs can cause environmental pollution which causes damage to the ecosystem and causes losses to the community. Another result of the indiscriminate disposal of drugs is the emergence of cases of drug abuse by irresponsible individuals. This educational activity was carried out on 12 and 13 February 2021 at Hilir Mesjid Village, Anjir Pasar District, Barito Kuala Regency. The method used was lectures and door-to-door discussions to residents' homes to avoid the spread of Covid-19. There were 22 people who were given education and 18 of them kept medicines at home for supplies. Many people still throw away medicines without opening the packaging. This activity received a good response from the surrounding community. It is hoped that this activity can increase public knowledge and implement proper drug disposal method.
