The merits on using COVID-19 theme material in WhatsApp-based online learning for teaching announcement text

Abstract

COVID-19 has resulted in disturbance for all sectors in Indonesia especially in Education sector. With sudden change, online learning has been mandated to be applied on all education to limit the spread of the pandemic. Online learning itself has met several problem such as how better face-to-face lesson is in comparison and the needs to have internet quota to access online learning. However, Whatsapp can be used to decrease the internet quota usage alongside some merits of using it. The merits are students become more confidence writing in English and more motivated in learning English. Authentic material is also effective in teaching English and the material itself. Which is why researcher use them to create announcement text lesson plan as social community service in SMAN 4 class X, Banjarmasin. The result are the appreciation from the teacher and experience gained from the community service for us.
